GO! Contemporary Dance Works is honored to present its world
premiere of ALICE, a full-length contemporary ballet based on the Lewis
Carroll novel, Alice in Wonderland. The largest production ever presented
in GO!'s history, ALICE will run February 11th and 12th at Knoxville's
historic Bijou Theatre. Ticket prices are $21.50 adult and $16.50 senior/student
if purchased in advance and $26.50/$21.50 if purchased at the door. Tickets may
be purchased by calling (865) 539-2475, online, or in person at Studio Arts for
Dancers and the Tennessee Theatre box office.
Artistic Director Lisa Hall McKee calls GO!'s version “exciting and daring,
animated and wildly intense with a whirling atmosphere.” The immensely popular
story combines classical, contemporary and aerial dance with powerful sets and
vibrant costumes. A diverse selection of classical and contemporary music
combined with supreme technical feats, both in the air and on the ground, will
delight audiences of all ages. A collaboration of the works of six
choreographers, the enchanting story of Alice is rediscovered with bravado and
brimming with wit and versatility.
Jill Frere, professional dancer with New York dance companies David Dorfman,
Larry Keigwin and Company, and Dina Gibney Dance will be dancing the lead role
of Alice. Frere dances with an athletic, contemporary flare that is both
unyielding and endearing. She leads the audience through Alice's adventures,
meeting with metamorphic creatures such as smoking caterpillars, a spinning cat
and flipping cards. Exceptional soloists demonstrate daring athleticism and
technical excellence. Visits from character dancers in the Madhatter's Tea Party
bring great humor and charisma to this infamous scene which is guaranteed not to
disappoint!
ALICE is the first production in which McKee incorporates projected
images onto the stage and onto the dancers. As McKee notes, “It is exciting to
use projection and integrate it into the choreography ....it will enhance the
darker and lighter elements, truly defining the story. This is an ALICE
no one should miss!”
Show times are Saturday, February 11th at 8:00PM and Sunday, February 12th at
3:00PM. There will be a wonderful gala event prior to the Saturday evening
performance at Club LeConte. An elegant buffet dinner, perfect for a
pre-Valentine’s Day celebration, a silent auction and preferred performance
seating is included in the ticket price.
GO! Contemporary Dance Works is a 501(c)3 non-profit composed
of 31 students Level V through Advanced currently enrolled at
Studio Arts for
Dancers. Artistic Director Lisa Hall McKee aims to link athletics and
dance and then present them in a venue that elevates enthusiasm for dance in the
East Tennessee community. GO! is known for blending contemporary ballet
and modern dance with daring athleticism that appeals to audiences far beyond
the devoted dancegoer.
