TRANSCENDANCE

 not your ordinary dance experience....

AUDIENCES TO BE TRANSPORTED TO A NEW DIMENSION IN DANCE

GO! CONTEMPORARY DANCE WORKS PRESENTS “TRANSCENDANCE”

Knoxville, TN. – GO! Contemporary Dance Works' presents Transcendance, an evening of contemporary and classical works surpassing all expectations, traveling beyond the limits of an ordinary experience in dance, on October 1 and 2 at the Clarence Brown Theatre. New works by GO! Artistic Director, Lisa Hall McKee and guest artist Daniel Chait will be premiered as well as favorites from the GO! repertoire.

McKee will premier two new works, "The Fall" a large contemporary work exploring the fall of Adam and Eve and "I'm Not What You Think!…Dancers are Athletes Too!" a funky fun jazz ballet that integrates basketballs, ballet and athletics. "The Fall is a large 20 minute intense and abstract piece on the events in Genesis. Using 25 dancers, The Fall begins with Adam and the creation of Eve, explores the temptation by Lucifer and the eternal consequences the fall had on humanity. It is very powerful, beautiful and scary. It really makes you think," shared Lisa Hall McKee.

Daniel Chait, former dancer for the American Ballet Theatre, Twyla Tharp and other major influential dance companies will present "Don't Be Afraid" a stark, contemporary pointe ballet that integrates a barefoot modern dancer amidst precision pointe work. "This is an incredible work displaying the contrasting genres of dance. It is mesmerizing! You feel emotionally connected to the soloist and her desperation. GO! is excited to have Daniel share his gifts with us. His choreography is very technical yet powerful," shared McKee.

“Mixing modern and neoclassicism is a technique I learned from working with Twlya Tharp,” said Daniel Chait. “The need to recognize ones’ insecurities and engage in active struggle against them is what truly allows the indescribable beauty to surface in creating illusions while dancing. The true strength, glory and magical presence of the dancer’s soul which is shared freely with the audience each night can only be achieved by being aware of both the light and the darkness we contain within ourselves,” added Chait.

Comedic, theatrical and conceptual works will also be premiered including works by Denise Njuguna titled "Long Lost," a relational feel good piece to the music of Aretha Franklin and "The Shirt I Wear", a deep and fearless look into bipolar disorder.

Favorites from the GO! repertoire will also be presented including "Architecture of Stillness" choreographed by Mark G. Lamb, the uplifting blues piece "Revivivication,"  and the theatrically intellectual work Libertango Cafe.

Known for edgy and innovative choreography, GO! is sure to push the limits once again, transcending beyond its audiences' expectations. "There is something for everyone in this show!" says McKee. "It has heart. It will touch your soul, make you laugh, make you cry and make you think. It is exceptional. It is what dance should be."

Advanced tickets are $15 adults and $12 students, seniors and children. GO! is proud to partner with Penny 4 Arts, enabling children in the Knox and surrounding counties to attend Transcendance at the cost of one penny with the purchase of an adult ticket.
